About Cosy Llama

Artisan wedding shawls and alpaca accessories, handmade in Ecuador and shipped from Portugal with care.

Our story

Cosy Llama is a family-owned artisan brand founded to bring the timeless warmth of Andean alpaca craftsmanship to brides, gift-givers, and lovers of beautifully made things around the world. We combine traditional Ecuadorian weaving with simple, elegant design, so every piece feels both rooted and modern.

Where our shawls are made

Every Cosy Llama shawl is handmade in Otavalo, Ecuador — a city in the Andean highlands famous for its centuries-old tradition of alpaca weaving. We work with a small family workshop whose artisans carry forward techniques passed down through generations. Nothing is mass-produced; each shawl is shaped by human hands, one at a time.

Why alpaca

Alpaca fiber is quietly remarkable. It's up to three times warmer than sheep's wool, yet lightweight and breathable. It's naturally hypoallergenic — free of the lanolin that makes wool itchy — so it sits softly against bare shoulders and strapless gowns. It drapes beautifully, resists pilling, and only gets softer with time.

We work with the finest grade of alpaca fiber, sometimes called baby alpaca. Despite the name, this doesn't come from baby animals — it refers to the softest, silkiest fleece from the first shearing, prized for its ultra-fine micron count.

Our approach to sustainability

Alpacas are gentle on the land. They have soft padded feet that don't tear the soil, they eat less and drink less than sheep, and their fleece is renewable through humane annual shearing. Because we work in small batches with a single family workshop, our production has a naturally low carbon footprint — no factories, no synthetic blends, no waste from overproduction.
